What is a good skincare routine for oily skin for winter?

Skincare in winters is particularly more complicated because fighting off the dry weather often wreaks havoc on your skin. And this gets more challenging when you have oily skin.

People with overactive sebaceous glands have oily and acne-prone skin. When more oil is produced, pores get clogged, leading to inflammation and acne. However, the same glands, when work in balance, are responsible for keeping the skin safe from the harmful effects of the environment.

When the temperature lowers in the winter and we turn on the heating systems, they strip our skin of its natural oils and the sebaceous glands in react to that by overproducing oil causing oiliness, acne and clogged pores. Dermatologists say that due to this season, we also come across another skin type known as the combination skin. In this type, the T Zone is oily while the rest of the skin on the body is dry.

What Should You Do?

If you have oily or combination skin, you should be extra careful about your skincare routine in winters. Pick products that are suitable for your skin type.

Use Lightweight Moisturizer

Having oily skin doesn’t mean you don’t need to moisturize your skin. In fact, it is essential to keep it hydrated so that your sebaceous glands don’t start overdoing their work.

For people with oily skin, moisturizers with tea tree oil, salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, and aloe Vera are considered best. Also, if you have an extremely oily skin, make sure you use a non-comedogenic and water based moisturizer.

Exfoliate

It is crucial to exfoliate your skin as dead cells can cause your skin to look dull and dry. Use a mild exfoliant with charcoal or salicylic acid as it exfoliates away all the acne causing bacteria and dead cells.

For a deeper exfoliation, you can always book a peeling session. At Nita Med Spa, our chemical peel will peel off all the imperfections away and you’ll get glowing flawless skin. With our special offers, you can save a lot of bucks on our most popular treatments. Wanna get unbelievable discounts?

Hydrate Yourself

Drinking 10 or more glasses of water is recommended to stay healthy. And staying hydrated also keeps your skin balance in check. It balances your skin’s natural oils, improves elasticity, regulates nutrients, and helps in protecting your skin’s natural barrier.

Sunscreen

Use sunscreen. Yes, that’s enough about using a sunscreen, there’s no other way.

However, using a sunscreen with minerals and oils such as tea tree oil is specifically beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin. It is a natural astringent and with antibacterial properties, it keeps acne and inflammation at bay.

Use Oil-Free Makeup Products

Always check your makeup before buying and opt only for non-comedogenic products. Makeup that is oil-based can cause damage to your skin.
