The lockdown may have been lifted partially in most parts of the world but the threat is still real and we are staying indoors as much as we can. Now where some experts are calling it a good occasion for some “Me Time”, the habits we have developed during the lockdown could have adverse effects on our skin.

Overthinking

Did you realize that after the pandemic, we have all accustomed to stressing over mundane things? Well, some could say that it’s a practical approach towards eradicating a problem, since when we were free of care, we let the pandemic consume us.

But both of these extremes are unreal and so is stressing for our skin. Acne and breakouts worsen up with stress. And thinking about things that we can’t control only gives us stress. So if you care about your skin and don’t want acne to do the damage, eliminate this habit right away.

Diet

YouTube influencers surely shouted over their roofs to cook, bake and indulge in your favorite food items while in quarantine but all that food was not so skin-friendly. Baked sugary items spike your blood sugar levels and can subsequently cause acne and breakouts on your skin.

However, in this regard, we can help you with a solution, focus more on the ingredients, organic, fresh and green vegetables are good for your skin and gut health. Processed foods contain chemicals that are harmful to both our health and our skin. Whole grains, raw foods are full of antioxidants that keep the PH level of our skin at bay, ultimately keeping the acne at bay.

Face Masks

We know that they are essential for safety and should be worn at times but what we all forget after a full hour at a public transport or an outdoor event is that the oil and dirt build-up on our skin needs proper cleansing. When dirt clogs our pores, blackheads start to form which later turns into cystic acne.

To avoid this, deep cleansing is necessary, especially at night. This is to keep the freshness and moisture locked while exfoliating the sweat, oil and residue away from the skin.

Climatic Conditions

The sun is out and we can all use our backyards to boost that vitamin D. But exposure to sun comes with a price. UV rays can cause irritation, redness, itching and breakouts. It can even lead to scars as well.

To counteract that, never forget to wear a sunscreen of SPF 15 or more. If you have an extremely oily skin, water-based sunscreens with SPF 45 or 60 are best to prevent the damage of the UV rays.

Skincare Routines

We know many of you got carried away this lockdown when you realized this is the time for developing a skincare routine that you have been neglecting for years. In fact, trying new products seems like a nice option now.

Hate to break that to you but excessive care is wrong. Using products without consulting a dermatologist is not the ideal policy. Your skin is delicate, so much so that if you rub it for more than few seconds, it will get red and itchy. So, for such a fragile and precious thing, you should never experiment with things that you know nothing about or have read about in a magazine.
